Spring 2017- Adventureland- "Pirates of the Caribbean" Major Refurbishment
In late Spring 2017, the world-recognized and extremely popular classic "Pirates of the Caribbean" will re-open and conclude its long (and much needed) major refurbishment. Many issues will be addressed, as well as plussing some other parts of the ride.
First, Jack Sparrow will be removed from the ride. It will no longer have any ties to the movie franchise, but instead its own separate (and original) pirate adventure like it used to be. All animatronics will be completely replaced with very fluid, modern versions of identical characters to make them much more life-like and prevent them from braking down. One effect that is currently adored by many is the fire effect behind windows, as it looks life-like yet guests feel safe riding through it, giving them a sense of adventure inside of them. To help further embellish this effect, the attraction will make use of 4D sense technology to add heat to these scenes, as in real life, it would actually be much hotter than it is in the ride with a fire beside guests.
In addition to all of these ride improvements, problems will be addressed as well. There is a lot currently wrong with the ride, such as failing audio effects, lights on where they shouldn't be revealing behind-the-scenes equipment, and water getting in the boats on drops. This will all be noted and improved to make the experience much more immersive, safer, and a bigger adventure!
Summer 2017- Fantasyland- "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" Major Refurbishment
In addition to Pirates of the Caribbean returning from a refurbishment this year, the classic family dark ride "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" will reopen to guests, now new and improved. While some may argue that it recently underwent a fairly large refurbishment and it doesn't need one as it is supposed to be a Fantasyland dark ride, it doesn't need high-tech effects, this rehab will certainly help the ride. After all, many guests say that this is a "kiddie" ride because they do not find it very exciting, modern, or immersive because they are older, so refurbishing it will widen its appeal. In addition, as time goes on, what is modern at one time starts to become old, so a refurbishment is necessary anyways to keep it from falling into a state of neglect.
The queue, having just been replaced/expanded, will remain mostly untouched, however by the loading area, the ceiling will be fully themed to a wooden house instead of simple painted walling. Also, a new mural of book pages will be put behind the vehicles. However, it will not be the ordinary Fantasyland mural. A new screen/projection effect will create the illusion that pages are turning in 3D, as if it is an actual, large book.
The ride itself consists of many cardboard cut-outs and moving figures rather than full animatronics. This will be changed so that all sets are 3D and well themed, and all characters/moving pieces have much more realistic life in them. With these major improvements, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is sure to be a new fan favorite!
